Fuel quality valves

I had a bit of a problem this afternoon. After landing and pushing the trike back into the hangar, I noticed a small drip, drip from the valve where you check fuel quality. As I tried to fiddle with it to stop the drip, the whole thing came out in my fingers
.
So now I've got a tank with 30 litres of fuel pissing out onto the hangar floor (better than mid - air I suppose) I eventually managed to get most of it into my jerry cans which were luckily at hand.
How are these valves secured to the tank, because there is no thread on the valve?? How do I get it to stay where it is supposed to.
Help please
