Hi everyone,
I saw Johan's plane - really a very nice looking aircraft. I did not suspect it to be a homebuilt for even one moment - it looks just like another certified aerie!
Johan built his in 4 months only. He said the complete main wing set took only one weekend to build. He quoted a price of around R54k for the complete kit. If that is true, then this is amazing value for money. He cruises around 100-110mph on a 912 which is good. Also, this South African version looks much, much better than the original Zodiac version.
This kit is being sold & supoported from George. Someone posted a tel. no here somewhere - I've searched the net but it seems as if no website is available.
From Swiftprop:"Skakel Carl Babst op 044 874-2457. Ek ken hom goed. Daar was een van sy vliegtuie in Carnarvon, 'n blou en witte ZU ELG. Hy is die man wat die kits bou of hy kan vir jou 'n voltooide vliegtuig bou. Hy is in George. Hy is 'n ingenieur en doen myns insiens goeie werk."
Whilst collecting my Mizer in Saldanha, I saw another two of these being built over there. I would seriously recommend this kit to anyone.
Won't someone post a pic or two here of the South African Raven - NOT the Zodic please!

Hi Smallfly,
See some nice aeries in your link, but oh alas, no Raven!

There is one flying from Circus, don't have pics but can take one on the weekend. I don't have all the info but Russel Bird should be able to assist. Only seen it fly once and is fast. On first glance would never think it is a home build.

Here is Johan's Raven. It is awesome. Cruises 90 to 95 with a 582. The only limitation is the size of the fuel tank, 40liters I think.

Hi Dewald,
There's one in Smallfly's link - maybe it will lead you to the builder. Smallfly, my apologies - your link refers to this & not to the Ravens.
Check it out here:

Buying a single seater is a no go, it's like buying a single seater motorbike. Your softness might never ever ever ride/fly with you but the fact that it's a single seater automatically precludes her and that's selfish.

Married for 26 years and I know, believe me

Hi Morph,
Don't you have more pics of Johan's Raven? That kit is really stunning for it's price - I was under the impression that Johan used a 912, but a 582 giving that performance is something.
I'm amazed that we do not see more of these Ravens taking into consideration how much a Bushbaby/Cheetah kit cost and how long it takes to build one of those and how popular they are.

There were two Ravens there, One is Marcel's (a blue and white one) and the other Johan's. Marcel was giving me the specs of his which is 582 based. I didn't ask Johan. IMHO the 912 is better suited to the plane
Secondly, unfortunately I don't have any more pics. I spent my time attempting to talk affrikaans to all my new mates in Carnavon over one or two drinks
