I have herd a lot of people talking about different oils out there.......What is your opinions is fully senc oil much beter that mineral oil?? I know it depends where you fly but what about here in Newcastle ??? ANy input??

Whatever suits you and your pocket. Major NB is to ensure you use a oil suitable for Air cooled engines in the 503 and one for water cooled engines in the 582. You burn so much of the stuff it makes sense to go for the more cost effective stuff and the full synths are usually expensive.

My choices
503 - Castrol Super Chainsaw (direct from the depot about R10 per 500ml)
582 - Castrol Super Outboard

I Agree with Morph on this one.

Why the diff. between 503(air cooled) and 582 (water cooled)?

Aircooled motors run at much higher temperatures than watercooled. The 503 CHT's run at between 190 to 220 deg C and the 582 110 to 130 deg C. As a result if you use super outboard on a 503 it is not designed to handle the higher temps.

Air cooled engines: API spec " Super Chainsaw"
Water cooled: TCW3 spec " Super Outboard Plus".

This is what the book says. Stick to it. Don`t stuff around. You only makin guinie-pig of yourself.

BTW. The same guys who made the enjaain, also wrote ze book. So mebbe know what zey are talking about. :D

I've got a Rotax manual in PDF, it's for 447, 503 and 582 Silver and Blue, it's only got one section for lubrication. Now I'm confused...

I agree, clear as mud

Using a higher temp oil i.e. the Super Chainsaw in a 582 would be fine. Just don't use the outboard oil intended for lower temp water cooled engines in the hotter 503

I went searching for more information and this is what I found. It answers both questions, what oil and synth or not.

2-stroke oil specifications

Rotax recommends using a "super" two-stroke oil which corresponds to ASTM/CEC standards and/or API-TC classification. It is also essential to choose an oil which is designed for an air cooled engine even if you own a liquid cooled engine.

2-stroke oil type

Synthetic oil should only be used by those who operate their engine nearly every day. Even when shut down, air is constantly circulating through a 2-stroke engine; it is never sealed like a 4-stroke engine. Even though it has excellent lubricating properties, a synthetic oil does not effectively protect a stopped 2-stroke engine against corrosion: it tends to attract moisture and will run off the parts rather than leave a protective coating.

No Super Outboard then, just Super Chainsaw.

Even tho I use Castrol SC you should be able to use any super two stoke oil as long as it meets API TC. Thanks for the bolded link Morph! I WAS confused.
