Hi everyone
Recently bought a Thunderbird and currently training at Ryno Park through
Q Training
Two questions?1) The altimeter guage seems to need a service. Can it be serviced or should I replace it .Who can I contact for the service or replacement.
2) The 2 stroke oil that was used by the previous owner was the expensive synthetic type. Can chainsaw mineral 2 stroke oil be used
The engine is a 618 Rotax

There is a company called Aircraft Instruments. They sell and repair kit

Because the 618 is water cooled it needs a two stroke oil designed for this purpose. Castrol Super Outboard would be my choice. Super Chainsaw is for air cooled engines and higher temps.

If you go to your local Castrol Depot (check in the phone book) you can buy directly and by the box. The last time I bought from them I got oil at R10 per 500ml vs R19 to R25 per 500ml at shops and garages.

I've only used the Halbot synthetic oil in my Rotax 582 since new. Was told will reduce / not build carbon e.t.c.

@ approx R100.00 per bottle, have continued using (off set against booze/ speedfines/ insurance) - so what.

Anyone run a motor on this and had an objective view once opened after 300 hours?

How big's the bottle? "Normal" fully synthetic is around 250 for 5l - not 2 stroker tho.

I think 750 ml. Don't pre-mix and has a large resevoir.
