EGTreadings again

Postby Robin Hood » Sun May 27, 2007 7:25 pm

My 582 has suddenly started giving higher readings on the EGT guages than before. Would normally run anywhere between 540 to 590 max. Now they run at 600, sometimes up to 620. My fuel flow also seems to read a bit less than before - used to cruise at about 10 lph now runs between 7 - 9. If I pull out the choke a bit, the fuel flow seems to stay the same, but the temperarue does go down about 10 degrees.

Is this anything to worry about?

From what you say I deduct that the mixture is running leaner hence the high EGT and lower fuel burn. Check your jetting and fuel system. The reason for the drop in temp with choke is that a leaner mixture runs hotter and a rich mixture colder. ( up to a point then you burn a hole in the piston or flood the engine)
