Hi all,

Is it an easy job to put in a new front tube on a windlass. Remember seeing a treat about this somewhere some time ago but can't find it now. Is it almost like changing a bicycle tube or is there a tricky part that I'm not aware of.

Does the tyre comes of easy with tyre levers or should I just take the whole wheel to a tyre dealer?

First thing, make sure the wheel is completely deflated. If not you will do as Gert Coetzee did, start loosening the wheel only to have it suddenly jump loose on the bolts causing the hub to break.

Next, remember that the rim is usually aluminium, so it will dent fairly easily. If the tube is completely deflated you should be able to get one side of the tyre off the rim quite easy by hand. The tube can then be extracted. Feel along the inside of the tube for anything sharp, be careful so you don't cut yourself. If you do find a sharp object extract it from the outside using a pliers or something. Pour talcum powder into the tyre to help with putting the new tube in.
