Garmin GPS 296 and Radio Interference

Postby ZULU1 » Fri Jan 26, 2007 4:38 pm

Over the past few months various GPS devices have been made available, they emit a RF interference. This has been an ingress into the radio but only at some frequencies. After a heap of work, (but on the intercom..wrong place !!) I may add by Brian Eaton and myself we have discovered that it enters via the PTT cable. This actually "by passes" most intercoms as a direct switch to the radio itself. The fix, obtain a rf "bead" and loop it close to the intercom box on the PTT cable and it sorts it.

OK now where to get the beads and what size ? Best ones come with new Icom chargers or I can supply.

I hope this fixes a long term problem. Brian is a happy chappy !!!

Centrifugal force in pure Physics does not exist, however this does not apply to Taxi drivers..
