Hi Smallfly
Porsche actually used to make aviation engines for the Mooney's
all the originals have porsche engines (Mooney are the fastest light aircraft in that league incidently)
As a matter of interest
BMW of course was originaly an aircraft engine manufacturer hence their logo is a picture of a prop in the sky
Rolls Royce obviously still a very large manufacturer for the big aeries
VW conversions done for a lot of the micros as we have seen here and Subaru used a lot for Gyros
Mitsubishi was used on the japanese Zeros and other A/C during World War II
Not sure if there are any others but I think one of the Italian (fiat maybee) are also used on a light a/c ??

Actually Porsch and VW started as Identical Motors, Even the type IV that is used in some of the aircooled busses etc are identical castings of the 4 cylinder VW motors even have the holes for the EGT CHT probes. Very interesting and surprising

Specifically noticeable with the Type IV 411 motor
