Hi,
besides the price, which would be the preferred rescue system for a trike? The BRS or the GRS. Does anybody have more info on these systems? I did have a look at the respective websites.

Haven't had to use mine yet (touch wood!) but I have to admit that when it came down to it I went for the less expensive GRS option. Please note that I did not say cheaper! From what I could see there does not seem to be that much of a difference wrt performance between the BRS and GRS. BRS if I remember correctly is a smaller overall package. GRS quality looked to be the same as the BRS.
Biggest difference (to me) is price - the SA BRS distributor only imports a system once he has your order and therefore you pay for everything. With GRS the local distributor brought a whole batch in which meant the logistics cost was split over the whole batch hence the individual systems being a lot less expensive.
I found the service Dave of Dreamwings to be an important factor - to me service is everything! If I remember correctly the BRS distributor only replied to my e-mail after I re-sent it aq couple of times. No names no pack drill..........
Look at the re-packing periods now though - I think I saw something about BRS extending the re-packing interval to 10years? GRS is only 5 so that could mean a considerable saving in life cycle cost.

Smiley and Arnulf may plan for an accident or how not to have one, but we all should plan how to handle the incident that is in every active pilot's future.
One of my instructors and many other fliers died unnecessary deaths and since Tony Powells's early demise I have always flown with a rescue system, BRS at first and now GRS. Sometime you will run out of luck, judgement or weather, but these systems offer you, and your aircraft, a second chance to fly again.
BRS was horribly expensive at first, but since I started importing GRS in batches of ten and selling at cost plus expenses, it is very affordable. Some planes like the Cobra are designed for the more compact BRS and there I advise to just shell out the bucks. BRS is good, but the bulkier GRS deploys faster and descends slower thanks to its powerful rocket and bigger parachute. Repack time is irrevelant, GRS costs much less in maintenance. Milan Babovka, the owner of Galaxy, looked me in the eye when he said his policy is to service at cost, and experience has made me believe him. (Dave returned a damaged unit recently and I brought it in with a batch of new units, the owner got it back as new for about R5000 all in compared to R15000 I was quoted on a BRS service in 2003) GRS replaces the rocket at every six-year service. (BRS only every second service, as I understand.)

Hi Mc Guyver,
When I got seriously interested in Microlighting, I scratched around in this forum to get info. Your post was probably one of the best pearls of wisdom I picked up, if not the best. After reading your post a rescue chute is a must-have for me if I get a trike.
