I was reading that the older silver top require the use of the long life silicon based coolant and distilled water due to the tendency of normal coolant and tap water to eat the water pump shaft. Hence the upgrade to the ceramic shaft in the blue top.

What is the recommended time interval for the replacement of coolant?

When mixing your anti-freeze to water solution use only DISTILLED WATER! Some owners have used well water, water from a tap with a water softener, etc. The block and cylinder head used by Rotax are ALUMINUM, as soon as any other metal comes in contact with it the aluminum will start to corrode. In two cases where owners have sent me engines with overheating problems, I have had to throw the cylinder heads away because there was so much corrosion in them that the water would not flow through!

I also found this post, which was interesting:

You can use whatever brand of Antifreeze & Coolant you want BUT:

1) Do not use or mix it with regular tap water.

2) Make sure that the coolant you going to use in you 582 is phosphate-free and silicate-free formula.

Make sure to get the 50/50 Prediluted Antifreeze & Coolant that is already pre-mixed with deionized water.

Havoline® DEX-COOL® Extended Life Anti-Freeze/Coolant meet all of the above

Here are the specs of the Havoline® DEX-COOL® Extended Life Anti-Freeze/Coolant: The patented carboxylate inhibitors in Havoline Extended Life provides unsurpassed cooling system protection, improved component durability and extraordinary extended life cooling capabilities for up to five years or 150,000 miles. Virtually all automobile and light-duty truck cooling systems can benefit from the increased cooling system protection of Havoline Extended Life. It meets European spec phosphate-free requirements and Japanese spec silicate-free requirements. Havoline Extended Life was also the first to earn GM's own DEX-COOL requirement approval. Havoline Extended Life Prediluted 50/50 can also be purchased by those who wish to have coolant already mixed with deionized water.

Castrol outboard mixed 50/50 with distilled water. It is worth the price.

Surely the Castrol premix should be fine ?
