Flying faster

Postby Vleisbom » Thu May 21, 2015 7:48 am

Morning guys,

I have a Aquilla 582 with a Stratos 15 wing and actuator configuration, currently cruising at 62mph, any ideas how to speed it up to 70mph?

Kind regards

Fit bung cords to keep pulling the bar in.

I am actually impressed with the 62 mph, struggling to get my Raptor past 50 mph in normal trim. I presume the actuator/electric trim system is responsible for most of the speed gain by moving the hang block forward and therefore getting more speed without physically having to pull the bar in? Can you confirm?

Possible speed improvements might be winglets that Jenya can fit. He mentioned speed gains in his article on the 75 mph Raptor from winglets (admittedly the 75 mph is with his custom made topless wing but said winglets alone can add a few mph). If you search for Jenya posts you should find article.

Hi Rob

Bly omte hor DMB vlieg met jou, Rob fit a nose cone airfoil around every pole etc the nose cone also helps preventing the cold air bowing up your a.... you know, yes the actuator does most of the work, if i pull the bar in i can get 67mph easy, but would love more actually much more lol.

Set your hangpoint forward i used to get 55mph easily on DMB with my dik gat

Met die MOD kry jy heelwat spoed by, dit maak die lang pad vinnig kort  Met die Mod is daar geen getrek aan die bar nie, baie gemaklik en jy word nie so moeg van al die getrek.

Die MOD kos +/-R1000 (**)

Vleisbom, back to the subject:

Divan rossouw mentioned earlier the aero foiling of round tubes. This is an easy yet very cheap and effective way of gaining speed.
The difference between a round or aerofoil tube is enormous. A simple Dacron foil can be made up by Jenya for those thick landing gear tubes.
