Postby Jon Hewitt » Mon Jan 19, 2015 3:48 pm

Hi all

I am in the process of purchasing a bantam with 85 hp jab , i have asked the owner to do a blow by test for me , which he has done ,and sent to me via SMS .i am not sure as to how to interperate the figures ,as i have seen it written down differently on a nother bantam that i was looking at .
i beliEve the minumum should be around 77 .
this is what he sent me

cylider 1 = 32
cylider 2 = 34
cylider 3 = 30
cylider 4 = 30

does this make any sense

The min is 60 over 80. Does the owner even know how to do a proper blow by test? Best is to have a qualified person have a look or the factory. It will save you lots of tears and money...my 2c

Was the engine at working temp when the test was done? If the test was done correct and the figures are correct then that engine is long due for an overhaul.

Thanks for the advice ,I spoke to the owner this morning .he admitted that the test was done by himself and his bush mechanic,he also agreed with me that it was not done correctly, he assures me that it will done again this weekend by a proper AMO from Pietermaritzburg (Dave Cormack)
Will keep you updated on the result
