nosewheel repairs on bushbaby

Postby clint13 » Fri Apr 18, 2014 1:20 pm

Hi,
I have discovered a crack right through the oval tube either side of the nosewheel mounting lugs on my bushbaby. I have pulled it down and are looking at ways to repair but also make this area stronger. Has anyone else had this problem and found a good solution. I am having some help to nut it out, we are thinking to make the shock bracket wider at the rear to prevent sideways rocking( which there is signs of this happening, maybe causing the fracture) and having the lugs mounted to this. If the bolts are wider apart this would have to help with spreading the load. The oval tube has not been damaged at the cluster weld. If we grind it out and replace it with a new piece of material, maybe a larger diameter round tube. I will split the floor to make checking easier.
any ideas if this is ok to try.

Best repair would be to remove the training wheel and put the 3de wheel at the back where it should be

I would like to but hard to find an instructor here to teach taildragger for the endorsement. It looks better sitting on 2 wheels and the tail at the moment

Go to Petit or contact Stefan (http://saplanes.co.za/) about the nosewheel problem or better let him make the plane descent again and let him give you the taildragger (http://fun2fly.co.za/) training. (!!)
