I have been flying fixed wings since 1982. Including Micros like Mc CDL and Shadow but just bought a Windless with Aquila wing fitted with a 503 Ratex. (Agent told me to call it this)
Now I would like to make sure about the oil. What is the best brand and mix.

Hi Willie, I use Castrol Super Chainsaw 2 stroke (suggested by aviation engines) mixed with unleaded petrol.

Willie, i use 200ml on 10 litrels (ratio = 1:50, 1 liter of oil on 50 litres of fuel, thus 500ml on 25 litres of fuel)

....or 400ml to 20L petrol :D
Bottom line is 50:1 ratio

Willie,

I use Super Chainsaw as well and I buy 20 X 500ml bottles in a box directly from the Castrol depot for about R190. That works out at R9.50 per bottle. I mix 1 bottle per 25 liters.

550 hours and except for decoking no other maintenance needed so far

Hi Willie

This question has been raised very often but to recap some thoughts. Most people have personal preferences. Castrol TTS is very good for lubrication and clean burning. Downside is it absorbs moisture and costs a lot. Used to use it but changed a few years ago to Castrol Super Outboard. Has a rust inhibitor in it which in my view counts for a lot especially as we live near the coast and get the sea breeze with the south easterlies. Also good lubrication for wear.
