carb balancing on rotax 582

Postby zoobie » Mon Sep 30, 2013 11:47 am

hi All

I hope someone can assist me.

has anyone used a vacuum gauge/ (2 x water bottles filed with fluid) to balance the two Bing 54 carbs on their aerie.

I tried doing it on Saturday...connected the 2 x vacuum hoses to the carbs and ran the motor.

The front carb seems to be sucking harder than the rear one. ..I tried setting the throttle idle stop, the air screw etc etc...but the front carb always sucks more than the other one. I can't get them to stay level. I even tried it a higher rpm...still same result.

The carbs are opening at the same time, the throttle bodies are at the same level, the float levels are the same....everything is identical.

Is this normal...has anyone else used this method.

thanks for your assistance.

regards.

Zoobie, ek stel die slides dat hulle presies saam oop en toe gaan, en die idle gap dieselfde is, en daan gaan vlieg ek. Hoe minder jy weet, hoe lekkerder vliee jy!! vhpy vhpy

If the slide height is 7mm on both at idle then it should run even. ( I use the smooth side of a drill bit) Just take up the slack equally on both cables when you done setting the 7mm with the idle screws and you should be close as dammit. Then use the gauge to double check.

Zoobie you can also check out the documents at the following:

I had and still have a difference in my EGT's where the front pistons EGT is always lower than the rear by about 10 deg C. I swapped fuel lines, carbs, plugs, checked compression, all without any conclusion. Next is to swap the EGT's, but I got tired. Now I just fly her like that. It's within spec and can't be serious.
