PETROL FILTERS.......AGAIN!! But please look

Hi,

The Rotax spec is 0.5mm.

99.9% of in-line filters are fitted between the tank and pump. I wouldn't put a fuel filter into a pressured line (between pump and carb).

Regards to all from a HOTTT Florida. (^^)

I agree with John, is the idea not to keep the dirt/contaminants OUT of the working parts ?
Filter BEFORE the pump is also my rule .

Hi.
I agree with the inline filter discussion in general, personally I also do not use paper type inline filters as I am running pre-mixed two stroke fuel.
What concerns me is ... how often does the strainer/filter in the tank get cleaned or replaced. It is not visible on pre-flight and also probably not a good idea to remove the screws to often as they are screwed into the plastic tank to clean it?

Not sure of the Aquila even has a strainer. They are usually installed into planes where you cannot look into the tank. You should be able to look into your tank and see any large debris in there like leaves. If take the take out and rinse it out

Yip...it does. :)

I only know because our tank was emptied and cleaned when we rebuilt ^

That is why ALL petrol tanks on aircraft should have a sieve at the petrol outlet point. That way "one leaf" can`t ruin your day!!

And now I was told that the MB filter/sieve is no longer available, but fortunately the aftermarket part is still available, unfortunately, without "hose barbs".  ## ## ## ## ## ## ## ## ## ## ## ##

so quick question:
regarding filter positions. for an auxiliary fuel line. in that case, the life of the electric pump is not a major concern since the pump is only used rarely.
as an option to NO fuel filter on the auxiliary line to get clogged, could it be more reliable to fit the pump before the filter, so as to avoid vacuums etc. forming downstream of the filter were it to get a bit clogged? that way one has positive pressure on the filter, which is more likely to find a way through the filter when one needs it to than suction?

or am i missing something critical about fluids and pipes?

If your fuel filters are getting blocked and contaminated, then you potentially have a huge problem if you flying a 912 -- the pump on the gearbox of the 912s also have a small fuel filter inside, and these pumps are sealed and not serviceable..... Always make sure your filters are clean!

OK thanks for this, i will make sure of it. i would not consider running my motor without a filter.
suppose in that case it has no advantage playing around with the auxiliary line's filter position either, since if the filter is contaminated one would lose the motor anyway.
so wherever the pump / filter sits comes down to the same thing, other than pump life were it to sit ahead of the filter.

i imagine the filter doesn't do much work if one uses clean fuel which hasn't been carried across the mountain with donkeys so the pump life would probably be long regardless of where it sits?
