Aquilla PAX 4 point harness... any ideas?

Postby Bundy » Thu Jun 20, 2013 4:10 pm

So I took a ride in Tribal's Discoball a while back and must say as a PAX I really liked the 4 -point harness in the GT. I would like to make one for DBP. I believe it adds a lot from a safety perspective...and with my son's first flip in the trike (FFS...dont tell Mom please!) due very soon I would feel much better with him secured nicely. :)

There is a lot of space on the pylon behind the PAX (see photo) and from what I can see will require minimal effort to simply make a bracket that bolts around the pylon to secure the shoulder straps to. Then I would also require the straps and buckles to be fabricated....

Firstly...will it be legal? No structural changes (drilling etc etc) will be necessary just the addition of the shoulderstraps....

Secondly...where can I go to have the straps made?

Your comments and thoughts/ better ideas please. vhpy

Go check mine and a few GT''s in Flo' hangar at Eagle Creek. He might be able to help you.

Bundy,

Speak to PietMeyer, he has exactly what you are looking for! Straps on, no structural changes needed!

I bought the top 2 shoulder straps online from a car supplier, and it then slides on both ends at the bottom, jaco

Ps - the clip strap between the shoulder straps was added later and prevent it shifting off, especially if the person is small.

Hi Jaco,

Can you show a closeup of the attachment to the pylon? I'm sure it cannot be complicated but would be good to see how you did it.

Many thanks,

Hi Alan,

Please could you post what you glean from Piet Meyer?

I have often considered this, along with the possibility of something a little more secure (3 or 4-point) for the PIC. I have seen the ones on the Cobra and they seem really nice but I would imagine need some structural work to get anything along those lines working on an Aquilla.

In this picture you can see the PIC belt on the RHS of the PAX.

Anyway, good topic! Please let us know what you find out.

Thanks,

Speak to Solo Wings Bundy. I had a set fitted on my Aquilla when I purchased it second hand. Did not have kids at the time so removed them - but will soon have to be refitted - my little guy is also getting close to the age of accompanying me.
