Weather Stations

Postby Alpha » Wed Nov 07, 2012 8:37 pm

Hi fellow pilots,

Not sure if this must be here, but it is a technical question! I need some help please? Does anyone know who I can talk to regarding a weather station that u can access remotely?

I would like to put one up at Klipriver, but I have no idea where to begin ## ##

Any help or push in the right direction will be great (^^) (^^)

Check on their website the live stations and see if you like what you see.

Hi Bulletjie,

I had a look and it looks great, who did you use to set up the system?

Hi Alpha
It is simple to install the Weather Station yourself. The trick comes in when you want to set it up for the Intranet. You need to download some Weather software that runs on Linux, all free of charge. then we took an old computer (You don't need anything fancy) and installed Linux on it and installed the software. Then you just have to do the setup. You will obviously need internet access and a web address to broadcast to. (we had our own school website so that was not a problem.
The Weather station will cost plus minus R4000, see this link http://www.oregonscientific.co.za/?shop ... ataID%5D=5 where we bought it from. We did the whole setup for less than R5000. If you want more info, PM or e-mail me.
