Vertex Standard VXA 220

Postby ZULU1 » Sat Nov 03, 2012 11:49 am

The VXA 220 is the best in the west in my book, however if used with our intercoms, it needs a small adjustment to allow the performance i expect from them.

The radio has a very high audio output, a chatterbox is made as much as possible "universal" so its difficult for us to custom make a unit, with the exception of the old ICA20 radios and pmr radios.

We use a 4016 quad chip to switch the radio side tone "off" when the ptt is pressed, a side tone is a feature that is incorporated ina hand held radio that allows you to listen to yourself when using a single headset. The chatterbox system does not need this as the intercom provides this.
The quad switch gets swamped by the audio level from a vxa 220 so its necessary to reduce this level to prevent distortion. They still work fine without the adjustment but they work far better with it adjusted.
I saw two installed today that i adjusted, both owners were happy...

To do this first is to RTFB! (read the******book) then find the sub menu STLVand turn from default which is "2" and set to "1" the transmission quality will be as close to perfect. The ICA5,23, 6,24 should also be adjusted off as well as the VXA300.The ICA 4 maybe switched off completely. The ICA3,22 have internal adjustments but are no issue.
