[*]Did a ac stator coil test - 2 yellow wires - get a ac reading of 15 volt while idle. Also tested dc out put while idle, get a 12,5volts reading. Does this means have a coil failure. Any one have spare lying around. Pm me please.

What is the DC output at around 3000rpm?
You will probably find it will climb to an acceptable 13.7V

You should see the following on the AC side (yellow wires DISCONNECTED from voltage regulator)
These are all +- numbers:
1500 rpm = 16 - 17v AC
2500 rpm = 30 v AC
4000 rpm = 50v AC
6000 rpm = 70v AC

Remember these are approximate figures but they should be in the same region, more or less. What it shows you is that the magneto generator is working as it should.

If all checks out then RE-CONNECT the yellow wires to the voltage regulator and DISCONNECT everything AFTER the voltage regulator on the output side. Check your DC voltages this time and you should get about 13.5 - 14v DC at about 3000 rpm. Anything in the region of 12 - 12.5 vDC means the voltage regulator is kaput......

Looks good to me , agree with the peking duck , I have regulators , pick-ups and coils available - new and used , regulators as well , Leprachaun

After this I had the stator taken out and we found that a piece of metal came lose and cut into the charging coil - (Reason: i noticed a drop in batt 9volt while flying - landed) I had the stator fixed and it was working fine. Week ago during pre flight i notices one mag not working (engine stopped)
All the resistance test on the electrics showed every thing was working fine. We then tested the coil wire after running the motor on the one mag for 2 min, and then discovered a resistant fault in the one coil wire (running to the rear cdi - 582). We since pulled the stator and replaced it.
Well nearly 7000 moela furter and I flying again.
PS : The culprit I THINK WAS was 2 small spotlights fitted on the front - but this is only my opinion < think trike electric not made for 2x 60W SPOTLIGHTS - I have replaced them with led light (thx Zulu)

Hijack on : Leprachaun, I need a regulator for a Jabi 3300 if you have please. Hijack off

Sorry Koevoet. You are right about the spot lights. They are no good for a charging system, especially if the battery is marginal. Which it normally is in our planes. I do not allow my students to use the landing lights unless absolutely neccesary.
