hi all
I hope some of you clever people can shed some light on this matter as I am getting plenty of different opinions.
If a used Rotax 582 motor and gearbox (approx 200 hours) has stood for almost 3 years, what should one look out for?
Here are some things that I have heard mentioned:
dry seals,
rubber bits/pipes cracking
rust on crank,
rings stuck
carbs blocked due to gunk.
Gaskets
I appreciate any feedback on this matter.
regards
Joe

Depending on how it was stored I would think that the bearings has a good chance of having started pitting. To start with I would take a borescope and inspect the crankcase for any signs of rust. If none I would take a chance and run the motor, if even a spec of rust anywhere on anything that is steel I would strip the motor and replace the bearings, rings and all seals for that matter.
