Acceleration problems on 582?

Postby pietmeyer » Mon Jul 09, 2012 6:32 am

Hi Guys

Anybody had this proble before?

252 Blue Top, starts easily and idles perfect but when you accelerate fast it is as if the engine just dies. Gradual acceleratrion seems to work but as soon as you push the throttle fast it is as if she dies either fuel starvation or too much fuel but not sure which.
Carbs are tested and works perfect as well as fuel pump. We removed the carbs and pump and tried it on another trike and runs perfect. Placed new carbs and pump on problem motor and sure as hell have the exact symptoms.

Any suggestion? Can it be spark plugs, gremlins or my mother in law? Any advice please as we are running out of ideas. (**) (**) (**) (**) (**) (**)

When yoy accelerate slowly and get rpm above 3000 all works well but it seems like transition from idle to "top range" is the problem. I have no technical knowledge so not sure about the workings of the motor.
Howdo you test the timing? Some history on the motor. The carbs were completely overhauled antrike ran fine for about 5hours and the one morning the problems started

Air filters are clean and when carbs and filters are used on another trike, no problems :(

This shows that the problem is not carbs as when we use different carbs on the motor, the same problem happens (**) I am utterly confused with this problem.

Look at your fuel pipes, and fit a new fuel filter.Do you use an Optifuel system?

I am not very technical but perhaps this might help

When I purchased my first second hand aerie, i mixed two different types of oils (mineral and full synthetic) together which caused a type of gel within the fuel. When idling, it idles fine but as soon as you rev it up, up to a certain point/rpm the engine just gurgles and dies down to a lower rpm again. As you said, that transition phase
I dont know if this is your case but just my 2 cents.

The oils are all the same and no changes made. Fuel pipes were replaced and fuel pump changed. Still the same problem. When we tried carbs with bigger jets, it seemed a little better. The strange part is that if the old carbs are tested on another plane, all works perfectly

Can there be a problem at the throttle cable and the part where it opens the carbs when accelerating? this problem only started recently. Realy strange and confusing (**)

Resynch your carbs
Check for any holes in the carb rubbers (if you havent checked that already)?

Thanks Triker. Brand new rubber, hoses and filters and all of these are working on another trike as we swapped and tried all options. We went so far as to take everything of a trike in perfect running condition (Carbs, filters, hoses and fuel pump) and tried but get the exact same problem (**)

I am thinking it must then be something like the part where the throttle cable attaches to. Maybe not "opening the carbs enough when pushing full trhottle quickly (**) (**) (**) (**) (**) (**)

Have a look @the stator!I had a problem on a 503!Idle fine, rebuild carbs and at the top it didn't want to preform!Sounds for me like the stator! Ask Alex Rudd!He knows motors!

Hi Piet, have you had a look at the jets, maybe something stuck there, all I can think of after all the trouble you went through. When idling fine, but as soon as the feul surges through, it blocs the jet.
