Hi
Is there a universal tachometer available for the rotax 503. Can you use a car tachometer?

Rotax 503 tachometer
Re: Rotax 503 tachometer
Hi hennies1, yes any tach will do, as all you are looking for are the number of pulses per min.
However, but and a big but, you need to ensure that the tacho can be set up correctly, one a single cylinder engine, a 2 stroke will give one pulse for every 360 degrees rotation of the crankshaft, while a four stroke gives one pulse per 720 degrees. Some tachos take into consideration the number of cylinders on the engine etc.
So the short answer is yes, any tacho will do, but it is all (or mostly) in the set up, or whether the tacho has the functionality to accomodate the required setups.
