What GPS to buy

Postby cloud 10 » Thu Nov 04, 2010 10:32 pm

Hi all, I want to buy a new GPs for my trike and want to know which one is the most popular for general trike flying as I am out of touch with new models etc. I have a 13 year old garmen 45 that just basicly has an arrow and takes ages to find satelites. I am going to Bankok in December and was wondering if they are cheeper there ?
Thanks. Kallie

I have a Garmin 195, works great! You don’t need a fancy GPS with colour screen etc etc. Well is depends what you want to do and if you can’t afford it obviously.
* They rip us off in SA; I imported mine through Marvin gold, cost me about R2k cheaper.
* Just remember it’s a risk you take, when buying stuff from overseas, as the warranty’s isn’t covered here. But do they really break that often?
* Make sure the SA maps are loaded.

Some great deals going on 296's at moment with everyone upgrading to Aera and 696's. Can be had for R5000 and less if you sharp. I got a 12XL at cash converters for R200. Also works lekka.

Thanks for the advice, one more question, are the new gps's good for use on both air navigation and for use with road street maps too?

Hi, sorry no need to answer the previous question, I got all the answers from Garmen website, think I'll go for a GPSMAP 196, seems do do everything and more than I want, from Garmen they cost $ 590. I'll see what I can get.

Can get 296 for similar price second hand. Shop around. 296 is waaay more GPS than 196.
