I want to fly my Bushbaby with both doors removed, is it safe to do so?

Yes, but there is a speed restriction. IIRC it 75mph?

You can open the door in flight, no need to leave them on the ground. Max 90mph but you will find with both doors off that the wind will bother. With a right hand tractor config you will find that the left side has less wind and works great. Just watch your ASI and VSI. If you do not have a static source outside the plane they will give you erratic readings. Enjoy

Rather open them, but do limit speed to round about 70mph. vhpy

What does the open door do to the fuel consumption? Does the open door create more drag? Is it advisable to fly with door open for long distances?

Owias it is much nicer and cooler

IIRC fuel burn is slightly higher and speed is lower... but you would not drive long distance with doors off. it gets tiring after a while. On Ferry from CT to Jhb I flew for stretches with door open (heat in Kalahari was 45+), but it gets tiring.

To answer. Higer fuel burn because of more drag and
Is it advisable to fly with door open for long distances
depends how quick you want to get to your destination.

Just to confirm the speeds Max is 90mph. Recommended is 70-80. Not under 70 when doing turns and so on and do observe the ASI and VSI errors.

I take the doors off, because if you fly in Xwinds sometimes the doors "flap" or fly at half mast and can distract enough to cause a problem... (like stall while trying to hold open or close...   )

Where the hell is your hurry to when you are flying for fun anyway?? Is`nt the aim to stay airborne for as long as possible...?? 8) I just lurf to mosey along at a low-low power setting at 55-60mph @ 500-1000ft, both doors open and watching the world move by. But then this is only me. vhpy vhpy vhpy
