Where can I buy a fuel filter for my plane (Rotax 582 engine)?????. Kemptonpark area

When I was still flying, I bought mine from the local Mercedes Benz dealer, they had a nice in line filter with a plastic element that worked 100%, I used only that all the years that I was flying without a single problem. Which AP are you gonna use to install it for you?( )

+1 on the merc diesel filter. They are translucent so you can see they are full of fuel and you can also see if you have grud accumulating in teh filter.

The part no. for the pre filter is 001 477 6601 and the price from the agents is R28.16 (from a 2008 posting). I went last year and got a bunch, the part number has changed but they will give you the new one.

Anyone use the glass type filter. the one that can be taken apart and cleaned.

I am not fimiliar with the glass type, just make sure that it does not use the paper type element as it might block the oil and only let the fuel through, except if your 582 have oil injection installed.

All Airborne trikes in Oz use the glass filters.
I do not know of any problem with the make they use.
Many engine outs in SA were blamed on these filters in the past.
These possibly had a finer mesh and were made in a different country
I have done in excess of 2000 hours with glass filters and only cleaned them every 100hrs.

There have been many heated discussions regarding this filter and I for one, had an engine out directly related to it, and it had been cleaned 5 hours before that. The mesh is too fine, .1 as opposed to 0.3mm and clogs up very quickly

Stay away from them IMHO

We also had an engine failure and there is only two possible causes. 1. fuel filter and 2. The choke was left out for the entire flight. The fuel filter was also cleaned about 10 hours previously.

Morph, I have posted a hight EGT problem with a splutterung motor when at max revs.
I had one of these "glass " filters on my aerie and started to have the above mentioned problems after about 20 hours. In the filter you could see very fine paticals filling the filter element and mabey clogging it, when the filter is asked for max flow mabey it inhibits the flow causing the motor to be "starved of fuel " ? I have removed this filter and replaced with the old type ( merc filter ), and all is cool now..... any comments?

High EGT is a result of a lean mixture, i.e. fuel starvation

Good call, those filters are just too fine.

There if obviously a problem with these filters. a an going to remove mine and maybe we should advise other people that have these filters to replace them.

Can you have a look on the filter and see if it states the country of mfg.
As mentioned previously we have no problem with them in Oz on 582 and 912.
We had a Europa flying around Oz last year that almost had a problem but this was due to dirty fuel from drums.
Fortunately he had a glass filter and could see the dirt
