Hello guys,

I have problem with the Rotax 912 carburator sockets were the rubber get separated from the steel insert part.

In my club, almost everybody with 912 engines, has exactly the same problem with these carburator sockets showing the same type problem.

Please look at the pics. My 912 is like 18 months old and it only have 52 hours of use and this part have fail. Also, you will see a white powder. I dont know what is that.

Also, I was checking the net and found this company that produce 912 socket carburators in USA and they say they are better than the Rotax ones.

http://jbmindustries.com/

Have any one have try these JBM 912 carburator sockets? Are they better?

THX,

Isaac

Hiya TB, I have used them with my HKS, and absolutely perfect in design and integrity and outlast the originals which both engines source from Japan.

Go for it.

That white deposit looks like "white rust ", a type of rust that you find on aluminium and similar type materials. ( mostly seen along the coast .... we dont see it up here on the highveld much. )

Later (!!)

I just place a order with http://jbmindustries.com/ for the Carburator Sockets. I am still waiting to receive them. I have also read on other forums that they are better than the Rotax ones

Hey guys, I just received my Carburator Sockets.

I have a question for you guys that are using these 912 JBM Industries Carburator Sockets.

I was reading at the JBM web page the following:

There have been various attempts to make the rubber sockets stronger and solve cutting and tearing problems. To prevent cutting of the rubber by the clamp, Rotax now supplies a "limiter" on every clamp to prevent over tightening of the clamps. The problem with this is that sometimes the clamps are not tight enough and the carburetor spigot can move and "work" inside the socket. This causes the locking rib and inside of the socket to get chewed up. Sometimes the carburetor can pop off, usually on start-up. JBM recommends that limiters be removed when using the JBM sockets to be sure the carb is tight and cannot move in the sockets.

Do you guys remove or leave the limiter?

THX,

Isaac

With my last inspection the AP looked for the limiter. I am not using it for the reasons you mensoned. I covered the clamp with a plastic sleeve to prevent the sharp edge from cutting and working its way into the Socket. You can also fit an additional little rubber mounting to firm up the joint between the engine and carb. After start, get your engine to run smooth asap. With cold starts, these engins rock and roll and shakes like hell untill the RPM is at 2000.

I know JBM claims to have a superior product and I have used their sockets before but............
.....JBM recommends that limiters be removed when using the JBM sockets to be sure the carb is tight and cannot move in the sockets.
Question: Is the 912/914 not a certified aircraft engine?

1) Are we allowed to use aftermarket stuff on a certified engine?
2) Does this statement not amount to the same as Mr. Joe Soap telling owners of Boeing or Airbus not to adhere to the Manufacturer's recommendation?

What say the rest of you?

Different story with the 2 strokes ie 503/582 etc............not certified, use what you like vhpy
