Radio ghost on 124.8 is back

Postby Ou Man » Mon Jul 26, 2010 8:59 am

This weekend I took to the skies in my trusty BDD with my trusty Vertex and rabbit antenna and low and behold, on 124.8 I could not receive anything except a tremendous interference. All other channels were fine.
This happened a few months ago and was the reason I changed my whole radio system!!!
Is there any way that we can find out what is happening.
This is happening in the Malmesbury area.

Same Story, New Vertex and Rabbit aerial, and the ghost is back. My ears are still ringing. ## ##

Very irratating and strange - was on Diemers yesterday. on the ground no noice - had a portable on to monitor the air while i was busy on the ground.

It was when i started climing over 800ft that the ghost on the radio come to visit - i did a couple curcuits and then went to Riebeck. The radio noice was constant up to Riebeck, turning to Voelvlei.

On low level back to Diemers following the Bergriver the noice was gone and the radio clear.

This ghost got me.

Previous time this happened Bollemakiese Jan (a ham) worked out that the most likely source was around Diemers, and then pinpointed it to be more likely that radio mast northwest of Diemers - on the Porseleinberg/hills. After a week or two it settled.

Even a handheld set on the ground at Sandkloof was jammed by the noise.
It seems as if the the source is most probably on the western side of Riebeeck Mountain??
Any response from the Morningstar guys?

Same thing with us. Almost all the trasmissions have huge amounts of interfearance and you can't hear a thing. on any other frequency its fine but 124.8 eish!!
We have a Icom A5 and a Vee-Rabbit on the trike and usually we can transmit fine (on any frequency including 124.8 ). Hearing people is fine on anything apart from 124.8! ##
