Garmin 196 display problems

Suddenly my Garmin 196 has little dots and lines almost like the outline of a map on the display.Even when off it still shows.Took the batteries out - no luck.Did not drop it.When you switch it on - the little specs still shows in the backround.What can it be.

Screen is damaged. Not sure on replacement costs and if it is economically viable.
