My Garmin 196 does not want to aquire satelites. When i move it away from my instrument pod its picks them up - bring it closer to the pod - looses signals. Is my instruments, radio etc.maybe causing this.I have Skydat dx 2,vertex radio and airmagic intercom system. Was thinking of useing the external aerial and move it away from the instruments - dont know if it will work - gps stays at the same place.ANY Advise

Riaan, you can use pretty much any antenna for a GPS, I used the original Aquilla antenna on the front for a fair while. Obviously there are correctly designed units but a knitting needle will also work !!

try it and see.

I have the external garmin antennae as I had the same issue with my 196. While you can use any antennae getting the bayonet type fitting for the GPS might be a problem?
