Air Magic + Icom A4 screaming transmit

Postby JCH » Mon Feb 08, 2010 2:03 pm

Can anybody please help me.

I have an Icom A4 radio combined with Air Magic box and headsets.
I can only describe the sound I get when transmitting as "screaming"
This only happens with the passenger headset attached.
Detaching the passenger headset stops the screaming transmit sound.

I've checked the following;
Obviously all plugs and connections tight.
Radio fully charged.
Removed the trike power connection - thus radio on fully charged battery only.

I've been told that I should get a different location for the aerial - somewhere at the back at the top.
Will this make a difference. All worked fine in the past?

Any ideas what I could be missing?

I have no idea, but I know if it was mine I would be asking Zulu1 directly as he makes the Airmagic

Its feedback Hannes,
Went away when I installed a V ant, but I am sure Paul will get back here with an answer for us.

Probably caused by the mic gain or side tone setting on the radio. Talk to zulu or RTFM to fix.

I've been contracted by Paul.
He indicated that installing a Vee Rabbit antenna would fix this problem as well as avoid future hassles when I eventually get my Garmin 196 fixed to the trike.
Paul is in Gauteng this week and I will report back on the results.

I had the same problem last week.
I turned down the gain in the headset, it worked for two days and was then a disaster  .
I then replaced the batteries and turned the gain back to max and it is now excellent.
Seems to be the batteries were the fault even though they still had 1.3v (Eveready energiser) changed to Duracell.
These headsets have probably done about 1000 hours and I think it is the 4th set of batteries vhpy

  Well the problem returned this morning. I have flown about 10 hours and the scream is back.
Once again I turned down the gain on the PC board and it now seems OK.
Not sure why this is happening :?: :?:

Initially I did consider the possibility of batteries being the cause of the problem.
Paul did not mention anything about the batteries and I did not ask.
I'm not able to try changing the batteries at the moment as I’ve been in Nigeria for a week and then Malawi for another week.
Will try the changing of the batteries when back in SA on the 2nd of March.
Thanks for the input.
