503 without top gasket ???? possible?

Hi,

My 503 is a dual ignition with approx 290 hours on.

When I took off the black engine cover to clean up the engine a little....it looked like there are no top gaskets installed. You can see a definite gap between the top and cillinder. (exactly where i expected to see a little of top gasket sticking out). I can see the gasket at the bottom (between cilinder and block) very clearly....only can't see any of the top gaskets.

Ok...Is it just not possible to see them or is my 503 running without them? I remember from my paramotor days, the guys took off the topgasket of their Solo 210 motors which gave them a little more power.....so I guess it is possible.

BUT>......what will the consequences be? Will the motor last shorter? Is it running hotter? Is it just better to install the gaskets rather? Advice please..... :?

OR> am I just not seeing the gaskets from outside? (Any way how I will know?)

Thanks guys!!

Hi Kloot,

Thanks for reply!

I had a look at this picture......Item 3 is described on the layout as "Gasket cilinder Head - 831881"

And yes, from the picture can see it will not be possible to see it without taking off the top!

Regards

Maybe, sorry. I had a look this morning and there is a top gasket  . It is the crankcase which does not have a gasket.

The Gasket is an aluminium disc, its aluminium/steel.
