Does anyone have any experience in getting off trike tyres that are stuck to the rim? The rubber and the aluminium seem to fuse. I took them down to the local tyre place eventually. They removed the tires but now I need new rims
There may be a trick to do this.......

Well on my old Landrover I have a tool that has a chisel end but rounded off, all tyres fitters have these and you bash it with a hammer between the tyre and the rim with soapy water to help lube the job, going around the wheel a bit at a time,

I would think the much lighter wheel/tyre of a micro would be the same but very much scaled down in force needed.

Nick.

You are trying to break the bead seating. We have this often on the bikes. One of the easiest ways to remove the bike tyre is to use the side-stand and the bikes weight to lever the tyre down and break the bead. Alternatively, we have used the backup vehicle to drive over the tyre which also breaks the bead. Of course, that's a delicate job and relies on accuracy of your spotter, but it does work and is effortless.

It's a risky think using hammers and chisels as the chance of either denting or buckling the rim could render the wheel US.

Thanks for all the advice. It worked. Lots of patience, sunlight soap and much grunting. Once the bead has moved then it seems to go OK but that was the hardest part in getting the tyre bead to move on the rim. Very careful in doing this as the rim can easily bend or the tyre tears.
Thanks again vhpy

Theres no plan here, if you dont have a mini tyre press you will destroy the rims. The best place to take your rims to is a Karting Shop, they use ali rims and will have this tool to remove your tyres. Pay attention when you at the karting shop, take pic of tool with cell phone, as this tool is so simple to make.

We live in the backwoods of Grahamstown, only carts here are the ones at Checkers

Maybe someone can take some photos. I used two flat sided pieces of steel I ground and smoothed out as levers. Quite simple really once I had struggled a bit.
