How many amps can you expect a 503 lighting coil to produce at 5000 rpm ?

170W AC at 6000rpm, works out to be a max of about 12 amps regulated t0 13.8 V. The regulator output is protected by a 16amp fuse

Thanks Morph, you're a mine of knowledge

.So here's another curly one for you. How many amps are required to run the ignition system,?

The ignition circuit is separate from the lighting circuit. It only uses 4 coils and the lighting circuit 8. However they specify that the ignition system is a
breakerless 12V 170W DUCATI capaciter discharge dual ignition system
Again 170W/12V = 14A max. Whether they actually drive the circuit to that current I don't know
