I know you said nothing negative but here goes

I know of 3 installations
1. Good - 110 HP, installed in a RANSS10. Brilliant performer, good hours by now. Fully aerobatic. The only problem was in the beginning the rubber doughnut coupling between gearbox and engine failed forcing an out-landing on a farm on the way to Overberg one year

2. Bad - 80HP in a Jora, two engine failures, resulting on out-landings. Eventually engine was converted to a boat anchor(this guy is the brother of the pilot in 1

3. Very Bad - 100hp in a Poisk Trike. Saldanha. Loss of power resulting in the pilot panicking and trying to make the airfield, stalled, went in. Fatal

So you make your decision

I do understand that the 110hp version has a very narrow power band, i.e. it drops off suddenly as you are reducing throttle. This caught the next owner of 1 when he was training also at Saldanha. The instructor suspects that this sudden loss of power as you come off might have caught 3 out when he was on downwind and he panicked

Here you will find the F30 models and specs and prices.

http://www.recpower.com/f302c11.htm

Just on a personal note, I would choose the fan cooled model, that way I know it will be cooled properly, because the factory designed the cooling system and secondly the life of the engine will be longer.

Kind regards,

Gunter Rostek.

Talking about Hirth engines, I have read in many forums that they are a PAIN IN THE ASS! There is a guy in my field that have a Autogyro with a F-30ES this is the 110hp Fuel injected, fan cooled. He always use to have some problem with it until a few month ago when the engine completely stop in the air forcing him to a emergency landing. When checking the engine, one of the cilynder near the PTO was completely crack.

Check his post with pics and also another guy there that use to have the same problems: His name is Fiveboy

http://www.rotaryforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=21505

He will replace the entire engine for a Yamaha Genesis engine for around U$8,000.oo

Hey Xyster, check in that same forum under engines were they are talking about the Yamaha Genesis 120HP. There is also a tread about the Yamaha Genesis 80HP.

There is a guy there named RACER that sells the complete package for around U$8,000.oo

Nevertheless Hirth is a German company and I am a German living in Germany, almost anything I hear about the stronger Hirth engines is bad reports. Especially when it comes to the new engines with fuel injection.

They also have the reputation of not being too accommodating.
Initially I thought that a fuel injected Hirth might be a great replacement for my old 582, but I have very quickly dropped this idea... :(

Cheers,

Oliver

Hallo Oliver,

Meine Erfahrungen als Auslaender der eine geringe Zeit in Deutschland wohnte und arbeitete, kann ich nur bestaetigen dass Kundendienst in den meisten Faellen mit "Sie koennen mich mal...." abgehandeld wird. Shade.

Gruesse aus Dubai,

Gunter Rostek.

Translation:-
Hi Oliver,
As a foreigner who has worked and lived in Germany for a while, I can only confirm that most customer service issues are dealt with a "Kiss my @ss". Sad
