Hi guys

can you please advise on the best procedure to correctly tension the belt. I have a 2,1 vw with reduction drive. I have been told that too tight or too loose can cause problems. so how do i know what is too tight and what is too loose. aslo when setting the tension do i run the engine until it is hot and the reduction drive is hot and the belt has shrunk and then set the correct tension. then when the engine cools , so does the belt cool and then get an idea of what the belt feels like when it is cold for pre flight inspection purposes.

i have been told that it is correct if you push on the belt betwen the drive pully and the crank pulley when cold it must move about 5 to 8mm and then when it is hot about 2mm. Lately I am just guessing. some help please

thanks Craig

Hi Craig,

Here is a link that will give you some information.
http://www.epi-eng.com/rotorway_helicop ... issues.htm

The information is given fr a 100Hp helicopter installation, but just read the factsand you should also cross reference everything with the GT2 Catalog.

http://www.gates.com/index.cfm?location_id=534

You will need to register first though quick and simple process.

Note that Gates TREATEN legal action to all who use their belts in any application that mentions the word AVIATION so tread lightly.

Kind regards,

Gunter Rostek
