EGT temp's on VW engines

Postby flykr » Thu Jul 09, 2009 9:45 am

Anyone know what the ideal EGTs are on the VW engines?

My VW runs at 620c in the cruise, I’m thinking this may be too low for a 4 stroke.

Aerovee has max of 760 deg C so 620 sounds like a nice easy cruise. Could try leaning it a tweak to around 650 - 680 or so.

My cubby with 2.1lt gotech fuel injection. Max climb egt 700 deg, max cruise egt 720 deg. Richen mixture as required to maintain CHT below 200 deg C in all phases of flt.

Cheers, Trevor

KRJock
I don't have mix control so have to set things on the ground. 750c sounds a tad on the high side but I suppose those Turbo VW's run a little hotter.

PS. How is the KR1 coming along, when you going to post us some pic's?

Nope, not yet. I’m busy replacing the fuel lines and sorting out a “BIG” oil leak. ## Also, I need to sort out the paperwork as last ATF was in 2002….CAA want to know why not fly for so long? (**) I’m also busy with the Bush Baby and want to get this flying first.
