Hi Bennie
Why dont you look at a PDA (I use one and it tracks live on the internet for free) or a tracking unit from a company called Falcom www.falcom.de I presume you arent worried about theft of the aircraft just watching your track flown? Or one of these http://www.semsons.com/amaggpsdalos.html

Point is that it will only work with gps, what you need is gps plus gsm when there is no gps (bennie flyes upside down sometimes) it still can track via gsm. does such a unit excist?

Yes there is.

Speak to Trevor Davies @ crosswinds. They use a system that is very good !!!! 0 8 2 4 4 2 3 9 2 5 / 0 1 1 9 5 2 1 7 4 3
You can say i told you to contact him, i am seriously thinking of putting one of their systems in my Sun Bird.

I recommend 'Tracetec'. It uses a small self contained system the size and appearance of a credit card. Can be concealed in amany places and even glued in place. As it does not need to be 'fitted' or wired in you have no airworthiness issues. Their recovery service etc is also top notch.

The system is mainly used by bikers, but worth a look. www.tracetec.co.za

The unit HAS a built in GPS and sends data back via GSM network
