Microlighters

Help, I fly a Gyro and up until recently experienced very little radio noise. I now have my VOX turned up full and pick up all the wind noise from the rear headset, i have tried covering the mic with a larger foam and leather no luck any ideas please

Have same problem.

Interesting though is that it became a progressive problem. Rattles my mind.

As opposed to the normal volume control for the earphone, is there maybe a microphone sensitivity control as well ?

Hello Kloot pilot and Fly Addict, I have little knowledge of Gyro applications, I understand that the rear pax has a serious noise problem as they are so close to the motor. Our UK agent, Steve Boxall is a Gyro instructor and as a result has focused many hours in developing the wind and ambient noise experience that you have. He has done the work on a MT03 with Filser radios. We made him the tooling to produce a Visor Bib for the Icaro 2000 helmet visor. He imports a very nice carbon kevlar helmet from Israel which he then assembles with similar headsets to us but much deeper cups. He also supplies a "in ear" ear piece as he has been working with a Formula1 hearing protection manufacturer in the South East. These I understand are very effective in a Gyro. Regarding radio noise, there are a few questions and posibilities to consider. Firstly what radio are you using and is it possible to reduce the mike gain? Some radios do offer the option of turning off the pax mike from the pilot seat and have a toggle for the pax, which must be held in while he speaks and wishes to listen.
There is of course the last problem! This is that one's ear in a noisy machine tends to go "deaf" after a time, resulting in you turning up volume and vox in order to hear. I am not suggesting that this is the case, however I do suggest that the intercom be switched off, to cut out that continous noise of the engine, which will in turn impair your hearing.

Had the same problem with my headsets in gyro. Pilot headsets with Filser radio. Tried all tapes and covers over mouthpiece, but no success. Eventually bought ANR (Active noise reduction) mouthpiece for Pilot headsets and problem solved.
