Do I need to change my prop

Postby Bumpy » Tue Mar 31, 2009 12:06 pm

Hi there all you knowledgeable folks

I have a trike with a 503 engine and a B Gearbox and a wood P prop

I have recently purchased a E gearbox.

Will I need to change my Prop?

I await your wisdom

Which ratios?

B Box ratios 2.0/2.24/2.58

E ratios 2.62/3.0/3.47/4.0

I would say yes unless you are changing from the 2.58 to the 2.62 which is quite close

The higher ratio, is allowing you to spin the prop slower for the same rpm as before, eg if you had the 2.0 then 6000rpm would give you 3000 on the prop, now 6000 on the 3.47 box will give you 1720rpm on the prop, which will allow for a longer fatter prop, or higher pitched prop, unless of course you have a ground adjustable prop like a warp drive, then you will have to change the pitch your self.
