Willie,
I agree totaly with you on all the mentioned issues regarding Rotax engines and all the rules and regulations around homebuildt aircraft. I also agree that your mindset around building or flying should at all times be safety first, and I hear my fellow aiviators and others saying ye easy to say.
I have also buildt 2 KR2'S in my time and completly finished and flew one. This was done on a shoestring budget, which is why it took my 5 years. I flew it with a 2 litre VW engine and has done most of the conversions myself with the exeption of the ignition system.
Getting back to the point I think there are many automotive engines like Subaru, Suzuki, Honda and many others that are being sucsesfully converted for aircraft use at a fraction of the price of Rotax.
You only need to surch the internet and see how many options you can get.
So your question -Why buy Rotax is a valid one.
Safe flying in your auto converted engine

I will never hammer the Rotax. It is a good engine, if you have the money, BUY it!! For us folks of " more limited financial means", it is back to experimental engines.....
