This topic should be moved to technical talk now. :?
So Diesel fan what will it be like installing a Rotary motor. You should be able to pick them up for around 6k.

Rotax is the bestselling ultra light engine for a reason.
Definitely not because they are the cheapest but the most reliable.
Here are a few examples
The Thunderbird MK III was discontinued because of the reliability of the Hirth engines check tde.co.za
The VW cubbies where I trained were more in for repairs than flying, the rotax ones were going strong.
Even the Jabiru’s had teething problems, one of them was dual coil failures.
Boet who builts the Bushbaby’s use Rotax

The support is excellent and Guys like Gideon, Trevor and Micro flight aviation can overall any rotax with their eyes closed.

The New Cessna will be flying with a Rotax

The RV 12 will have a Rotax

Magni, Ela, MT-03 Gyro’s all Rotax

Samba Rotax

Regarding automotive engines :

Some wise words from VANS aircraft: "the best conversion I know is to take $8000 and convert it into a good used Lycoming."

Thought so too

 which one, they not known for torque and might make quite a bit of noise at their RPM's

As far as Rotax VS others goes, well thats up to you but a Smart motor will cost almost 1/3 the price of a 582, conversion parts etc will add more, who needs to overhaul when at that price you could just buy a new 4 stroke motor. Besides I got a rotax too - for now.

Whether my mods go well or not I'll post as I want to keep it objective, unbiast and unemotional. It's an engine at the end of the day not a rugby team.

It's an engine at the end of the day not a rugby team.
How true. And if it is a Rotax, it probably won't let you down, unlike that rugby team from Pretoria, the name slipped my mind, but I am sure you know which one I am talking about.

:D Yip the motor was installed on Saturday and today we started it for the first time. :D

A few final ajustments to the timing/fule mix and she will be purring like a kitten.

I think we will start with at least two hours of ground run's and taxing before we will take off.

Can't wait.

Main bearings start sizing again. All we can see is that the dirt in the pipes, old oil cooler and filter must have worked threw and start to scratch the bearings again. So we are stripping it totally and clean every inch of this motor before re assembling it. Just waiting for spares.

When an engine is rebuilt all pipes oil filters and pumps must be replaced.

:D :D :D

I can't stop smiling tonight. After three months been grounded I had the opportunity to fly my old tryke again today, Thanks Quinton. What an experience for a change. But that’s not all, the Bush baby started today and is purring like a kitten. Taxied two hours with her today. Just a small oil leak to fix and to set the idling and we are ready to roll. Woooohoooo !!!

Yes Bennie,

Hoop alles loop goed. Dink daar aan om weer na julle wereld te kom vlieg!

Ek was lanklaas daar, destyds het ek gehelp om die Casino te bou in die ou Iscor Club, lekker daar gekuier. Baie mooi mense ontmoet.

Gaan 'n plan maak.
