Thanks for the feedback so far. Whiteeagle, the fact that I get the same prblem with different carbs and also that those carbs work on another trike eliminates carb problems. :?

Will have to check the stator then

Fuel changed, filters changed and even fuel tank emptied and checked. Yesterday the pressure was tested and tested in spec

Now we are totally confused :? :? :? :? :? :? :?

Hi Piet,

Let me guess, you fitted a fuel flow meter lately!? Change from jet number one, the one for fuel flow up to 25l/h, to the the next one up for up to 50l/h! had the same problem, engine smooth even at the block, at about 15 to 20 seconds in flight EGT's go up, very lean mixture, and then NOTHING! Geesssss, all that training seems to come back very quickly!

Let me know if it works!

After having bitten my lip to keep quiet the last few days, I now feel compelled to make this posting.
Folks, please read the posts from the top and make sure you understand what the problem is before you make a posting. I know we all want to be helpful but if we don't understand what advice we're giving, we're not being helpful and it ends up like a dog chasing its own tail.

Piet had clearly posted in his first few posts that this motor had the carbs overhauled and it ran fine for about 5 hours then the nonsense started. They have taken the carbs, airfilters, fuelpump and related pipework and swopped it over to a good working motor which CONTINUED to work fine so that ELIMINATES the carbs, pipes, filters and fuel pump. They then took the carbs, filters, pipes and fuel pump from the good working motor and put it on the problem motor and the nonsense persisted. So what does that tell you?...............huh?

The only things that remain to be checked is the ignition system and the actual pistons, rings etc.

(^^)

100% correct!

After everything that we have done, it's clear that it is not a fueling issue!! We also checked the compression, which is in spec!

Next steps will be to take a closer look at the ignition system, again.

Have you tried synchronizing the carbs on YOUR aircraft as YOUR carb operating cables and splitter may well be be causing your prob,

The guy who posted this on the yahoo forum knows his stuff..... http://groups.yahoo.com/group/cgshawk/message/26176

I use a variation on his ideas with welding rods instead of drill bits...see pic....slightest moment of the throttle is shown with a twitch of a rod.

Thanks for the effort, but as I said carbs checked, double and trple checked, which included synching and everything related.

Problem was found and corrected. After the 300 hr checks, by an AP, the rotary valve was installed 1 tooth out.

Looks like you forgot to mention the prob started after work was carried out on the rotary valve ?????

Not really no!!!!! Long story around it though!!!

The short of it is, ever since the trike was bought, it was fractionally sluggish and could never achieve the static RPM, that the other trikes could achieve! After the 300hr service there was no change!! Once the carbs were rebuilt now, the sluggish-ness got worse, hence the need to find and rectify the problem!!

So, don't now if work was done to the rotary valve before the trike was bought or whether the rotary valve was installed incorrectly during the 300hr service (crank check etc).

Anyway, problem found and now rectified!
