How much is the 912S now? Last I looked, they were close to R200k?cross_wind wrote:The real issue here is the Jab isn't a cheap option anymore. Last quote I got for a 3300 was R 138,000. Pretty close to a 912.

..... and I'm sure that's excluding coolers & radiators etc on the 912UL.
No contest if you compare a JAB 3300 to a 912ULS in cost!

I also thought the 3300 is a bit big for Explorer. If the 2200 just had a bit more power. But not going to pay almost 200K for 912.

Come fly the 2200 Explorer first, then we will talk. The 3300 can work but the engine mount is very short and you will then have trouble to fit a carb heat system but I am sure with a bit of tinkering it can be done. The last price Oct 2010 we paid R141 k including VAT, oil cooler and carbeat system.

Re: Jab Engines - the good and the bad?
I have a friend in Postmasburg that has a JAB 3300 on a Bantam. this engine has now developed a serious "piston-slap" after 350 hours
I am curious if the "mogas-blend" he uses has anything to do with this. He also does not hammer the engine... watching & listening with bated breath
