 ZU DSR is going for 20 hours since the motor has been redone.

I must admit that I was forced to catch up on some tips and secrets on these VW motors.

For example: You will never believe how munch problems you can encounter if you do not have the correct prop and reduction drive fitted.

I just swapped the prop last week from a 72/50 to a 72/52 and revs came down on the cruise by between 400 rpm to 600 rpm and with full throttle it came down from 4500 rpm to 3800 rpm. This in turn meant that my motor is not working itself to the bone = less sump compression and no more oil spilling. Also lighter on fuel, also 15 mph faster and is now cruising at 80% power between 90 and 95 mph.

Also were the stick was pulling to the front all the time, it is now back to a hands off neutral flying position for strait and level and even the flapperons is now been used in the manner it was created for.

Slowly but surely all the teething problems gets to be sorted and you guys can be soooooooo sorry you did not bought it when she was up for sale.

My landings is also coming on quite well now and I did about 8 hours towards my BB Conversion now.

Ek is bly jy is besig om die VW uit te sorteer!

Hoe lyk dit? Wanneer kry jy nou vir jou 'n smart diesel? Die VW gaan jou nou net begin verveel en ons gaan nie meer by jou kan leer nie! :D

Yip it is true. I have a problem with the valve gaps that keep on closing, causing the valves not to close as they should. So the only thing I could think that can cause this is if the valves eat into the seats.

So I pulled the tops off but can not find any obvious reson for this strange phenomena. So I send the tops off to the engineering works to get redone and to fit double high performance valve springs.

Then checking the cam followers I found one to be a bit more sticky than the others so out came the motor to be split and to make sure all the inside components is still in spec.

Please I need your input on this Idea. I have a theorie for the cause of my problems and the solutions. I do not know if the solution is the answer though.

Please tell me what you think. We have cut open a normal as the man on the street know it, an old time mechanical cam follower and found a little surprise inside it.

Ok I'm getting back on track and another R4200.00 later new valve springs fitted, a new set of cam followers fitted, heads redone completely and the motor is again been installed this morning.

I will fit the final nutty gritty and do the necessary tuning some ware threw the next week or two and then it is taking off time again.

At least I now have the most expensive VW motor I know of. ':-
