VSI's in trikes??

Postby Trikenut » Sat Dec 20, 2008 4:26 pm

Hi Guys,
Just wondering, do you NEED a VSI in a trike?
I am looking at various Aquilla panels on the net and in other places and I have found that some panels have them and some don't!
Comments and answers please...
Cheers
Ross

Hi Ross,

You don't even need a ASI to fly a trike. Now why would you need a VSI??

If not a Windsock Flyer "Windkous flieer" it's a must for X-country flying.

Depends if you obsess about lift. I do - Got 1070fpm the other morning and that made me more happy than all my christmas presents  - For me it is a must - I have one on the plane and built into the GPS, I look at both - Also handy when 700feet agl and you wanna set the cruise throttle to maintain altitude - Set throttle to where VSI shows zero - On my trike this is about 5000rpm take your foot off the gas let your legs hang and vhpy vhpy vhpy

Big D a VSI for a Cabbage trike is an overkill, maby if you remove it you would be able to + at least 100 ft on your lifting factor. Well maby the saddlebags....

My trike did not have a VSI and after a holiday I had in France this year were I managed to get some hours in with an instructor flying around the French alps and doing some soaring under the instructors guidence and finding the VSI on the trike very handy in that situation, I decided I wanted one but had no room on my panal for the normal round one,

So I got one of these, http://www.microtim.com/

Since I fitted it I have found it to be a handy and educational tool, its very accurate as well, upto now I just use the VSI part of it.

Nick in the UK.
