Zodiac HD/Raven stats, please!

Postby justin.schoeman » Mon Oct 27, 2008 2:37 pm

OK, I have finally done it, and placed an order for a new Raven airframe vhpy vhpy vhpy .

Now the fun part begins - choosing the engine. I am aiming to make this sucker as fast as humanly possible, but still keep it cheap. With any luck, I will get away with a 2200 Jabiru engine (current record is 120ktas @ 8000').

What I would like to do is gather stats on flying 601HDs/Ravens, and see if I can calculate what the actual drag is, what the ideal prop will be, and what performance can be expected.

If anybody wants to help in this effort (and you happen to own a 601/Raven ;-) ), I would appreciate any/all of the following information:

1) basic details:
- engine
- prop diameter
- prop pitch
- any airframe mods

2) static rpm:
- (density) altitude
- rpm

3) WOT level speed:
- (density) altitude
- rpm
- speed

4) WOT climb performance (at different speeds, if possible)
- (density) altitude
- rpm
- speed
- climb rate

Thanks in advance!
Justin

Congratulations Justin (^^) (^^) (^^) (^^)

I do not have any data yet but will keep you posted on the success of my 2200 in the Raven

will speak to Pottie who has the other Raven in my hangar

he records everything during all of his flights and can provide a wealth of information

his is fitted with a 912s and the performance is amazing given our field elevation of 3400ft

Pottie is also building another Raven, this time a tail dragger. His plan is to build a really light & simple aircraft which will have the Jab engine installed !!!! !!!!

Let us know how you get on

cheers and regards

James

Hi Justin
Would you mind going through your basic thought process in choosing the Raven on the forum Other than just cost cost and cost! Also it will be nice if you can share the CAA process you are following.
Flying regards
Andre
