Fuel guage

Can anybody please explain how do I set-up my strato master fuel gauge and flow meter
I bought trike fitted with fuel guage (in petrol tank), flow meter (Just after fuel filter) and instrument (on the instrument panel) fitted but not calibrated.

I would also suggest you calibrate it so that it registers empty when there is still about 5L left.
A bit like setting your clock 5mins fast to make sure you get to a meeting on time! vhpy

Hi,

I have the FF-1 from mgl.

For fuel level:

Set reserve (lets say 5 liter). Now you have 5 calibration points left. Lets say tank is 50l. 45litre left to calibrate.

Put trike in flying position. front wheel 1 foot of the ground. Put 5 liter in tank, and calibrate the reserve. Put in 9 liter and calibrate point 1. and so on and so forth.

For fuel flow:

Bit more dificult. You need to measure actual consumption. But best I've heard, is that you must take of full throttle, and reading should be around 25l/h. If lower, set calibration lower. If higher, set calibration higher. Remember that this is only estimate, then you can start fine tuning with actual flow. If reading is higher, set lower. If reading is lower, set higher.

Just a thought...... Would it work if you mount the flow meter on a workbench, measure lets say 1L of fuel in a jar then pump it through the meter and calibrate according to that? When the jar is empty your flow meter should read 1L if calibrated right??? You can repeat this at diff speeds of flow to test the accuracy......Have a feeling this will work better than estimating the fuel flow at full throttle. (**) (**) Any response on my suggestion welcome as I have never tried it that way.....

any way you like.

I would use Wargames' method to calibrate the tank. Then unclip the fuel pipe from the input to the diaphram pump, put the tube into a calibrated fuel bottle, switch the standby electric pump on and double check fuel flow against fuel level. you will infinitely be able to check the two against each other until you have pumped the tank dry. If the level tells you that you have used 5 liters, check the calibrated bottle, check the fuel flow meter. If under reading switch the pump off, change the calibration setting on the fuel flow and switch on again. This will simulate the entire system all the way up to the diaphram pump.

Oh you do have a standby electric fuel pump don 't you? :wink:
