Fuel Tank Breather pipes

Postby Z-MRP » Thu Nov 20, 2008 5:45 pm

Something to think about. Was at komani last week looking at a shine arie made in NZ and noticed that the fuel tank breather pipe position will dump fuel onto the PIC back should the plane end up on the ground in a position it was not designed to be in. What I have learnt from motorsport and have done it on my arie is you take the breather pipe from the filler and route it to just below the fuel cell level with a few extra holes burnt thru the end incase Mr Wasp blockes the end for you. What this does is it makes the breather the highest point when the arie is having a mishap and prevents fuel flowing out the tank and becoming a major fire hazard. Look at your breathers and see where the fuel will end up going in the event of an incident/accident.
Sorry havent worked how to add in smilies to live this up a bit.

The outlet of the breather pipe must below the bottom/lowest point of the fuel tank (fuel cell) :)
