Props on Jabiru engines

Postby James Bentley » Mon Oct 20, 2008 2:27 pm

Has anybody out there tried a Sensenich propellor on the Jabiru 2200 (85hp) engine?

I am building a Zenair 601HD with the Jab and would appreciate any info on prop installations for best performance :?:

GT also produce a prop for this engine and would be interested to hear from owners who could compare with the original Jab supplied one

Thanks

hi James,

if I am not mistaken you should talk to "Captain Biggles" on this forum.
I believe he fitted one to a jab powered Skyranger.

How about sensenich's recommendations:

The prop selection is VERY airframe dependant, so you should consider posting your question on one of the zenith builder's lists.

Hi James, hope you are well !

I have flown my Jabiru powered Shadow with a Arplast Echo prop and a Warp Drive, both 3 blades and cut down. The Warp appears to be the best, set at about 16 deg pitch. The pitch is a bit coarse for climb but great for cruise.

I am watching your progress with great interest as I must still make a final decision as to what is going to be bolted on here....

Hi Rudi

I know the Jabiru will work well, its finding the correct pitch for the prop if we install a Sensenich/GT which is fixed.

There are two listed for the Zenairs, 40" or 42"

Hope to be able to make the correct choice upfront as the props are rather expensive at today's rates.

Warp Drive is another option...

The more info I can obtain the easier the descision (**)

The plan is to create the smallest frontal area as possible around the nose to maximise the potential of the Jab, the prop diameter is only 62". The bottom cowl has been sorted but now I need to take about 30mm off the front of the top cowl and taper it back to the firewall. The rest of the airframe is about as "clean" as we are going to get although a fillet at the wing root might be a good idea for better cruise.

I will take some pictures of the build so far, the final colour has still to be painted, at the momnt its all white and looks a little dull. :| :|

Andy, you will have to wait a few days

I have not taken any pictures at all of the build (**) (**)

Colour choice at the moment -- teal/turquoise with pale yellow or lime (!!) (!!)

Inspiration comes from seeing a similar combination on a mountain bike made by Ibis, it is absolutely beautiful and so different!!!

Flew a cheetah this morning with 80hp jabi and a sensenich prop. Very nice and smooth and it cruises at around 90-95 mph. It's not hugely quick out of the blocks but not bad either. I didn't look at the size but I'm sure if you contact Rainbow aircraft Vladimir would be able to give you the size. They have sold about 10 planes with that combo.
Nuts about Cheetahs. Petit is the place.
